CHIaPAS COFFEE MUSEUM



                                                                     


Chiapas, one of Mexico’s states, is located in Mexico’s southeast region 

Chiapas is neighbored by Oaxaca and Veracruz in the west, Tabasco in the north, the Pacific Ocean in the south, Guatemala on the east and southeast.


Chiapas has many different touristic sites which range from beautiful colonial cities to magnificent archeological sites from ancient cultures like Zoque, Mayan and Olmec cultures, Chiapas is also home to wonderful beaches, waterfalls, and lakes.




There are 123 municipalities within the state, Tuxtla Gutiérrez is the capital city.  Name of the city comes from Zoque culture. It was originally called “Coyatok” which means Rabbit’s house.

Tuxtla Gutierrez, is a developing city and prepared to receive visitors from all over the world, it’s a modern city as well as a traditional city with its own rituals, legends and architecture.  The city has many touristic attractions like ;

The building of coffee’s museum now was a house in 1923, but building owner donated his house to the state government to be the regional museum in 1934. The building became the Coffee Museum in 2009. The main purpose of the museum was to renounce the importance of coffee culture within the state of Chiapas and also to stimulate the consumption of coffee from Chiapas. The Coffee Museum is an instrument of promotion, training and outreach regarding the socio-economic importance and consumption of coffee in Chiapas.




The coffee museum is located in the center of the city, at the second street east, between Central Avenue and first street north.
The museum has different rooms such as:

history room

 • History room; here visitors can learn the mythical and historical legend of how coffee was discovered and how this aromatic grain spread around the world from land of Chiapas.

Biology Room

• *biology room and coffee cultivation; in this room visitors will be able to observe the biological structure of the plant, the grain and how production is handled from its organic form in Mexico and in Chiapas.

Processing room

 Room of industrial processing and marketing of coffee; here is the whole process of transformation that transforms this grain. Visitors can see the both industrial and artisanal machines that are used to transform the cherry in the process to the roast and ground coffee.

Tasting Lab

• Tasting lab and Barismo; we have qualified staff to train providers of professional services in the cupping and the preparation of coffee.

 •  Boutique coffee; coffee and culture goes hand in hand, so there is a special area for cultural events in the open air, such as the presentation of books, conferences, press conferences, and/or pictorial realization of exhibitions.

The services available to the museum are the following:


·         Sightseeing Tours is a tour accompanied by a guide, where the visitors may engage in an environment permeated with aroma of coffee through the different rooms. During the trip, visitors will be able see various machines and tools that illustrate the process of wet, dry and coffee roasting.  Upon entering the tasting lab and barismo, the visitors are welcomed and served a cup of delicious coffee and surrender themselves to intruding flavor of splendor. The property is registered within the National Catalog of immovable monuments of the State of Chiapas by the National Institute of Anthropology and History.
